Irv Rubin and Earl Krugel will be in Judge Lew's courtroom (room 21) on Monday, November 4th at 10am. Important defense motions will heard and ruled on at that time. The address of the federal courthouse is 312 North Spring Street. Come and show your support for innocent JDL leaders who are being railroaded by the federal government!

We received word today that the trial has been moved from October 1 to November 12, 2002.

JDL Chairman Irv Rubin and long-time JDL member Earl Krugel were released from solitary confinement a week before Passover. They are now housed in the “general population.” They were able to participate in a seder (several days before Passover, but a seder nonetheless). They have been given matzo for the holiday. Irv and Earl express their sincerest thanks to all for the letters of support that they have received. The trial date has been set for October 1, 2002, a date agreed upon by the prosecution and defense attorneys.

Irv Rubin will be “celebrating” his 57th birthday on April 12, 2002. The Jewish Defense League is asking that members, supporters and friends to please take the time to send him a birthday card. Let’s flood the federal prison with cards! If you would like to enclose a gift (not necessary), you may send a money order (postal m.o. preferred). Besides cards, letters and money orders, you may send magazines and soft-cover books, if you’d like. Please continue to write to Earl, too. His birthday is in November, so we know he’ll be out of confinement by then! Here’s the address:

Irv Rubin #20965-112
P.O. Box 1500
Los Angeles, CA 90053

Don’t forget, you can also send letters, cards, etc. to Earl Krugel #20966-112 at the above address.

Irv Rubin and Earl Krugel were finally allowed to occupy a cell together, although living conditions at the federal facility are terrible. The JDL men are scheduled to enter their pleas of "not guilty" at the Roybal Federal Courthouse (3rd floor) in downtown L.A. at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 22. Supporters may attend the proceedings, but seating space is not guaranteed. Please keep your cards and letters coming! Irv and Earl appreciate your kind words of support and contact with the outside world. Please give generously to the Rubin Defense Fund. Remember, defense of the wrongly accused costs as much as defense of the guilty, if not more. Donations of $200 or more will receive a limited edition JDL t-shirt. The address for the defense fund is:

Altman & Morris
1880 Century Park East
Los Angeles, CA 90067

Irv Rubin's family has been allowed to see him since just before New Year's Eve. Visits are limited to 2-3 times per week, for one hour each time. Irv finally got his reading glasses on Dec. 31, just before a family visit. He is allowed to call his family 1-2 times per week. His wife sent him a mail subscription to the L.A. Times ($64 for one month) but since he is in "isolation," the prison will not let him have the newspaper. Earl's family has also experienced problems, such as extended periods of waiting at the facility, with his detention.

As of this date, charges have not been filed, although lawyers for the two JDL members say they have been told that indictments will be handed down tomorrow.

Irv and Earl appreciate the cards and letters that people have sent them. It is very lonely for them as they are being held in solitary confinement. They are housed separately in small cells and are allowed only an hour in a larger, bare room for "exercise" for one hour every other day. Please click here for their mailing addresses.

Jewish Defense League Chairman Irv Rubin and his close friend and JDL member Earl Krugel have been arrested for a crime they did not commit. JDL is a law-abiding, albeit activist, organization; we are the last people to be involved in any attempt to harm innocent people. Please remember that the media have presented only one side of the story. We believe our members are being persecuted by the U.S. government. They have been denied bail, and as of this date charges have not even been filed!

Irv's wife and children have not been allowed to see him since his arrest almost two weeks ago. They literally have been given the runaround in their attempts to see him. Even though money has been sent to him by his family, prison officials have not put the funds into his account in order for him to call home. His wife last spoke to him on Dec. 15! His attorneys had to intercede in order for him to get a toothbrush. He has been denied reading glasses.

The Jewish Defense League stands firmly in support of our brothers' innocence. Please rest assured that Irv and Earl will be cleared of any wrongdoing when they have their day in court. Please help us free our JDL brothers by donating money to their legal defense funds. Here's where you can send your check for Irv:

Altman and Morris
1880 Century Park East, Suite 613
Los Angeles, CA 90067

Please make checks payable to "Altman and Morris" and write "Rubin Defense Fund" in the memo portion of the check. This money will be placed in Irv's client trust account.

Please send your letters of support and encouragement to Irv and Earl. Here's how to address your envelopes:
