Posted March 13, 2002 By Dr. Howard S. Brand, DSW, PHD Assistant Deputy Chairman of the Jewish Defense League Edited by the JDL Web Staff The following was a speech given by Dr. Howard S. Brand, DSW, PHD in March, 2002: Saudi Arabia is a "fascinating" country of the Middle East. It holds 25% of the worlds oil supply. The USA gets 8% of its oil from the Saudis. What is so fascinating about Saudi Arabia is that nation is really part of the "Axis of Evil." President Bush used that statement in his State of the Union address to describe North Korea, Iran and Iraq, and Saudi Arabia certainly deserves to be on that list. Nazis, Jew haters, Arabists, and many Muslims call the US Government ZOG. (ZOG is a term that a Nazi named Eric Thomson claims to have invented, which means Zionist Occupied Government.) In reality, America could be called SAOG - SAOG being Saudi Arabian Occupied Government. People claim that Congress is too scared to criticize Israel. Oh really? Anyone ever hear of Congressman James Traficant, David Bonier and Nick Rahall? These men have been professional critics of Israel. Yet the Saudis are off the hook despite the misdeeds the perpetrate - because they can cut off oil to the USA. We could easily get that 8% percentage we get from the Saudis from elsewhere. But it's cheap to pump oil in Saudi Arabia, so we continue to depend on the Saudis. No US President, Republican or Democrat, Liberal or Conservative has ever criticized Saudi Arabia. The same can be said for Vice-presidents, Secretaries of State and US Ambassadors. After the attack on the World Trade Center and Pentagon, it was determined that at least 15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudis. This is when the US finally opened up its eyes. Actually, while many Americans realize the truth, Congress is still in the dark. No member of Congress has had the courage to criticize Saudi Arabia, even in this post-9/11 climate. But now Saudi Arabia is now back in the news. The country has proposed a peace deal in the Middle East. According to the Saudis, if Israel were to retreat back to its pre war 1967 borders, then Arab states would establish normalized political and economic ties with the Jewish state. Most everyone is enthusiastic about this idea. But there is much more than meets the eye here. Can the Saudis be trusted? All logical indicators point to a resounding NO! Historical Primer By 1948 the British Mandate for Palestine was near its end. The British wanted to partition the land. The issue was sent to the United Nations. They took a vote that came out 31-13 in favor of partitioning the land. Then Harry Truman boldly recognized the modern state of Israel. Consequently, the Arabs fumed and declared war. There was no foreign intervention on Israel's behalf at this time, and the Arab regimes were confident that the Jews would be little more than a short-term nuisance. The mightiest Arab kingdoms sent their armies to "push the Jews to the sea," but despite the tremendous odds against the nascent nation, Israel miraculously won the war and their independence. (So much for the myth that the UN created Israel.) Israel won the war; to the victor go the spoils. But the Arab nations were relentless in their attempts to wipe Israel off the map. From 1948-1973 there were four Middle Eastern wars between Israel and the Arabs, initiated all by Arab attack and/or provocation. Israel won all four wars. Interestingly, the Saudis never fought in these wars. That's because the US made a deal with the Saudis back in 1948: The US would provide military protection in return for access to their oil. This has come back to haunt us. The Saudis have used their oil to silence critics of their policies and to exert pressure on their allies. Back in 1973 they even cut off oil to the US after Israel won the Yom Kippur War. An intriguing historical episode is the saga of Idi Amin. Amin, the mass killer of 400,000 people in Uganda was allowed to escape that nation in 1979 and settle in a certain Middle Eastern country. Surely you've guessed which one: Saudi Arabia. No one has expressed ire over this. They are silent because of that filthy oil. Despite Saudi Arabia's persistent ills, Ronald Reagan and the Saudis got along well in the 1980s - the oil flowed through. Then in August of 1990, Saddam Hussein, madman of Iraq and creation of the CIA, invaded a country no one had previously heard of, Kuwait. He then threatened to invade Saudi Arabia. This is when the Royal family of Saudi Arabia asked the USA to defend them. Incidentally, a then unknown Arab military veteran who fought the Soviets in Afghanistan was back in his homeland, Saudi Arabia; he volunteered to form his own army to repel any Iraqi invasion. The Saudi royal family told him they would use the US Military. This individual was livid that the Saudi Royal Family would allow "infidels" on holy Muslim land. He publicly criticized the Royal Family, causing the regime to revoke his citizenship and throw him out of the country. He ended up in the African nation of Sudan. Meanwhile, the US led war against Iraq began on January 16, 1991 and ended three months later with the "liberation" of Kuwait. The aforementioned person thrown out of Saudi Arabia was, of course, Osama Bin Laden. . . It was that very act of throwing Osama Bin Laden out of Saudi Arabia that made the US a terror target. Osama vowed revenge against the Saudi Royal family, but he would later include America in his plans for revenge. Osama believed America strong armed the Saudi Royal family into using US troops. His first terror attack took place in 1993 - the "Black Hawk Down" conflict in Somalia. In 1993, US forces were ordered to help the starving Somalian people who were battling murderous warlords. Osama helped train the Somalis and supply them weapons, and the US Marines were set up. What we didn't know about the event until years later was that Bin Laden's group was behind the calculated terrorist plot. This disastrous peace keeping operation was portrayed in the recent blockbuster "Black Hawk Down." The critically acclaimed motion picture, however, failed to point out Bin Laden's involvement, presumably due to concerns over political sensitivities. Later, in 1996, 17 US Marines were killed when the Marine housing called Khobar Towers were blown up by Bin Laden's group. The Saudis would NOT let the FBI investigate. Instead, they found four common criminals and executed them, claiming they had executed the individuals behind the act. The reality is that the Saudis weren't just protecting Osama, they were shielding Iran as well. Iran was an accomplice, and the Saudis did not want the US to find out and exert revenge on the Iranians. The attack on the USS Cole, another horrific occasion, was the last precursor to September 11, 2001. On the infamous day of 9/11/01, 19 hijackers - 15 of them Saudis - hijacked four planes, using them to destroy the buildings of the World Trade Center and do massive damage to the Pentagon. Despite the fact that Afghanistan was hosting the primary terrorist network responsible for the attacks, Saudi Arabia and two other Islamic nations refused to break off ties with the Taliban. (Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates were the others.) The Saudis also refused to freeze the assets of terrorist groups. The horrific events of September 11 may have had one positive result, namely that people are starting to realize the Saudis should be classified as part of the Axis of Evil. Yet, in contradiction to the facts herein, President Bush did something highly unpatriotic in order to appease the Saudi despots: He apologized a few months back to the lead Saudi Prince for the harsh treatment the American press was giving Saudi Arabia. Incredibly, a US President apologized to a hostile foreign nation for the free speech of US citizens! Driving the Point Home In February 2002, the magazine National Review ran a cover story called "Desert Rats". The author Richard Lowry mention how when US troops were stationed in Saudi Arabia in 1990 to defend against Saddam Hussein, President Bush was forbidden to say Thanksgiving grace on Saudi soil. Of course Bush went along with this. Additionally, the Christmas party on the base was canceled, and Jewish soldiers were told not to wear their Stars of David. In a sickening display, the military leaders told their soldiers not to bitch and moan. Saudi Arabia finances mosques throughout the West. They spend millions to build mosques and send their preachers to these new nations where the mosques are built. They preach hatred against anyone who is not a Muslim, and they do it in typical Wahhabi Islamic fashion. When hatred is taught to school children from age 5 to age 18, it leaves an indelible mark on impressionable minds. Does anyone find it strange that Saudi Arabia is building houses of worship in other nations? This is the Saudi secret plan to "take over" the world. They encourage Muslim immigration to the West. They build mosques in Western nations, especially the USA. They preach hatred against non-Muslim, seek converts, and spread propaganda. Most converts to Islam in the US are blacks, many of whom convert after entering the prison system. Clearly, this is a step in the wrong direction for any group of people. One has to hope that legitimate, anti-Farrakhan Black Christians will convert fellow blacks and discourage them from the hatred imbued in Islam. The Saudis have been paying many terrorist groups not to attack them. These groups then utilize that protection money to commit terror against anyone they consider to be an enemy. The Saudis are yet another backward Arab people who were lucky enough to settle on the world's largest oil deposit. Of course, it was the West who discovered it for them. If not for oil, Saudi Arabia would be another desert pesthole. Journalistic Integrity vs. Journalistic Obscenity In contrast to the wonderful work of men like Joseph Farah, Andrew Killgore and Richard Curtiss are likely the staunchest allies Saudi Arabia has in the US. The two run a virulently anti-Israel, anti-Jewish magazine called "The Washington Report on Middle East Affairs." It is believed that the Saudis finance them. Last year Richard Curtiss wrote an article praising Louis Farrakhan. He said that Jews only hate Farrakhan because of his criticism of Israel. Those who have a grasp of recent history know Farrakhan does much more than criticize Israel. In fact, the Nation of Islam leader has called Judaism a "gutter religion" and has incited Jew-hatred amongst his followers for decades. In 1986 Curtiss and Killgore spoke to Willis Carto's rabidly Jew-hating Liberty Lobby. Carto was also the founder of the Institute for Historical Review, the notorious Holocaust denial movement. Carto has stated that "Israel is a bastard state," that "the defeat of Hitler was the defeat of the West" and that "Jews are public enemy number one." The Washington Report on Middle East Affairs prints anti-Jewish cartoons. They are taciturn when it comes to Arab Muslims burning down synagogues in France and Britain. They have written articles in which Killgore has claimed that the Mossad, the Israeli intelligence service, might have killed President John F. Kennedy. They print letters from Holocaust deniers. They publish pieces proclaiming there are "Zionist" conspiracies against Christians. They heap praise on every Arab and Muslim nation, while consistently vilifying Israel. They remained silent on Osama Bin Laden until two months after September 11. They have said that Israel knew in advance of the attack, yet Killgore and Curtiss have offered no proof to substantiate that bogus claim. They have defended the Libyans convicted of blowing up Pan Am 103. They also have a relationship with the Holy Land Foundation, an Islamic organization recently shut down by the FBI. Rather than imprison innocent Jews, perhaps the FBI should turn its attention to the conduct of Killgore and Curtiss. They are lapdogs and whores for the Saudi Royal family. Attempts to Obfuscate the Truth In 1996 a group called the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) was formed as a propaganda organization designed to mislabel the truth as hatred. Their spokesman is a convert to Islam named Ibrahim Hooper. He's constantly complaining about alleged anti-Muslim bias. In 1998 CAIR sponsored a rally at Brooklyn College in NYC in which Muslim speakers referred to Jews as "Sons of monkeys and pigs." CAIR refuses to this day to condemn Osama Bin Laden. It's a safe bet that CAIR too gets Saudi money. CAIR supports Hamas and Hezbollah. They're about as un-American as any US organization in existence. Another group with sordid views is the ADC - the American-Arab Anti-Discrimintaion Committee. They were quick to capitalize upon the empty government allegations against Irv Rubin and Earl Krugel. Yet, they fail to condemn Osama bin Laden; that silence is all too telling. They have not condemned their co-religionists who have attacked Jewish property in France. They certainly will never speak out against terrorist attacks against Israel. Like CAIR they are nothing but lapdogs for the Saudis. You Call This Peace? The lessons history provides make that point abundantly clear. Egypt made "peace" with Israel in 1979, in exchange for Israel returning the Sinai. (It's clear that Egypt desired peace with Israel since Egyptian forces were decimated time and time again after assailing the Jewish state in the past.) Since that treaty, no Egyptian Prime Minister has ever visited Israel; tourists are discouraged from traveling to Israel. The government controlled Egyptian press continues to disseminate disgusting, rabidly antisemitic literature. (The number one selling CD single in Egypt last year was a little melody entitled, "I hate Israel.") Egypt is still an economically depressed, backwater dictatorship. Jordan established a very similar cold peace with Israel. Truly, the only peace Israel has with its two partners is tenuous at best. The basic ingredient of the Saudi plan is that Israel should give up its land for a peace agreement. The Oslo and Wye Accords of the 1990s were based on exactly the same premise, and they amounted to spectacular failures. So if Israel were to take the Saudis up on their offer, would the Arab people suddenly eschew their perennial hatred for the Jewish state? Of course they wouldn't. The latent effect on Arabs would be quite the opposite - anti-Israel terrorist groups would gain even more supporters due to backlash against the agreement. Terrorists would still attack Israel. The Washington Report on Middle East Affairs would certainly still be anti-Jewish. The Arab nations would still denigrate Israel, and any hypothetical "Palestinian" state would assuredly not recognize Israel. Most significantly, the agreement would mean the abdication of Israeli land and the regression of the state back to indefensible borders. And, of course, any "peace" achieved through this agreement would only be temporary in nature. The highest Muslim clerics, after all, declare that only temporary cessations in violence against the Jewish state maybe permitted under Islamic law: "Sheikh Abdel Aziz Bin-Baz, the mufti of Saudi Arabia, has himself explained that 'peace with Israel is permissible only on condition that it is a temporary peace, until the Muslims build up the strength needed to expel the Jews'" (as quoted in Joseph Farah's Land for peace, again). If the Saudi plan were implemented, the Arab's dream of wiping Israel off the map would persist and be championed with renewed vigor. The Arab world wants Israel eliminated; that is a simple fact of reality. It does not take a genius to figure out that Islam cannot exist peacefully with other religions and that the Islamic world cannot stand democracy. The Arabs say Israel has no right being in the Middle East, and this author agrees with that sentiment to some extent. Israel is the only democracy and the only civilized nation in the Middle East, so it is truly out of place, surrounded by barbaric, totalitarian dictatorships. The Saudi peace offering is merely another political ploy to destroy Yesha. The Saudis are more than "Desert Rats". They are the enemy of freedom and security in their perpetuation of Islam. The Saudis want the world to forgive them for producing Osama Bin Ladin; they are peddling lies and false promises for peace in the Middle East in order to lubricate their oil sales. Nothing less and nothing more is the intent of these false purveyors of Middle East peace. In the final outcome Israel will rightfully hold onto Jerusalem and the West Bank, and the Saudi Arabian Royal Family will insist that it was Israel's fault once again for the perpetual hostilities. As long as the Jewish State fails to do what must be done, Arafat and his "people" will continue reigning murder upon Israel, no matter how Saudi Arabia manipulates the equation. Irv Rubin and Earl Krugel are suffering tortuous imprisonment because the world wishes to suppress Jews who don't sheepishly turn a blind eye to evil. Ergo, with all of this mind, Saudi Arabia is obviously the 4th country in the "Axis of Evil." They use their oil threat as an albatross around our necks. They have their 5th Column pro-Muslim Arabists in the USA, along with Richard Curtiss and Andrew Killgore to aid them. The Honorable JDL International Chairman Mr. Irv Rubin and the Honorable JDL Regional Director Earl Krugel have been set up by the FBI in order to appease Muslims, yet when it comes to the real terrorists, the Saudi Arabian Royal Family, the US refuses to act. Is it not high time for the world to realize it is aiding and abetting the true sources of wickedness? In order to right the record, lets start by taking the Saudi's oil and letting them wander the desert like they did before they were propped up by the West. The US must put an end to its desert-ass-kissing, for all the cheap oil in the world isn't worth the life of one innocent man, woman or child. Dr. Howard S.
