History Channel Error: Only 10 Commandments Survived

August 03 2009 - 4:05:39:am by JDL

This may not be that important a story, but we believe it’s a good idea not to let falsehoods about our faith in the media be perpetuated. History Channel international, a expanded cable channel that plays an expanded selection of History Channel documentaries, is currently running a promo for a documentary on Moshe Rabbeinu that says approximately the following:

Moses received more than 600 commandments. Only ten of them survived. Learn more this Monday. . .

It is disturbing to see a professional media outfit make such a glaring error about Judaism, particularly during a promo that claims to explain the history of the religion. JDL will be contacting the network to try to get the promo corrected.

The only other important commandment which is missing is - beware of and dont become a Muslim.  Althought at the time of being written Muslims did not exist, thats why that one was discarded.

Editor: While we appreciate the sentiment, there are a multitude of commandments that inform us in absolute terms why we are Jews and cling to the Torah rather than follow the religions of others. JDL’s anti-missionary section, coming soon, will cover Christianity, Islam and other missionary threats, what their arguments and tactics are, and what the authentic Jewish responses are.

If you have been approached by a missionary or have read their claims and find yourself troubled in any way, know that Judaism is the truth, the answers to the questions you seek are close by, and JDL is there for you - feel free to contact us for help.
