(Reuters) - A US airways (LCC.N) passenger plane was diverted to Philadelphia on Thursday after a religious item worn by a Jewish passenger was mistaken as a bomb, Philadelphia police said. A passenger was alarmed by the phylacteries, religious items which observant Jews strap around their arms and heads as part of morning prayers, on the flight from New York’s La Guardia airport heading to Louisville.
“Someone on the plane construed it as some kind of device,“ said officer Christine O’Brien, a spokeswoman for the Philadelphia police department. No one was arrested or charged, O’Brien said. The plane landed without incident and the passengers and crew were taken off the plane, a spokesman for US Airways said.

(Ynetnews) Even when Israel puts itself on the front lines of medical and humanitarian aid sent to the ends of the earth and wins great praise for its professionalism in doing so, there are those who prefer to transform the act into an opportunity to spread hatred and lies at the expense of those suffering in Haiti.
An American resident of Seattle, Washington uploaded a video to YouTube on Tuesday accusing soldiers in the IDF delegation to the earthquake site in Haiti of being involved in stealing organs from their patients.

(FoxNews) A judge has sentenced a 34-year-old man to life in prison without possibility of release for killing a woman and injuring five other people in a 2006 rampage at a US Jewish charity. Naveed Haq and his father appealed to the judge for forgiveness before the sentence was pronounced on Thursday.
Haq said he thanked God every day more people were not killed and said poorly prescribed psychiatric drugs made him violent.
He had been found guilty in December of aggravated murder and attempted murder.
Haq, the son of Pakistani immigrants, held a teenager at gunpoint as he forced his way into the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle in July 2006. He opened fire, killing fundraising director Pamela Waechter as she tried to flee and wounding five others.
Before surrendering, Haq ranted against Jews and said he wanted to be on CNN.
The defence said mental illness was to blame. But prosecutors said that even though he was ill, he knew what he was doing.

(Daily News) A large swastika was carved Monday into the hood of a student’s car at Calabasas High School, and authorities are investigating the incident as a possible hate crime, officials said.
Sharouna Babadjouni, whose son’s 2009 BMW was vandalized, said there have been other anti-Semitic incidents at the school, but this is the first one that she reported to authorities.
“We didn’t report those because they were in paint and could be easily removed, but this can’t,“ said Babadjouni, whose family is Jewish. “This makes me sad, and it’s hard to send (my) three kids to the high school when something like this happens.

The thugs didn’t take anything, but struck again just a minute later, brandishing a gun at a 27-year-old Hasidic man, and again demanding money and making slurs.

The AP reports that a Muslim man in Ohio, Mansor Mohammad Asad, was taken off a Detroit bound flight for shouting “I want to kill all the Jews.“ Jews need to recognize that the threat of Islamic radicalism transcends all borders.
“Police say an airline passenger in Miami proclaimed “I want to kill all the Jews” before officers forced him off a Detroit-bound plane. Miami-Dade police said in a statement Thursday that 43-year-old Mansor Mohammad Asad of Toledo, Ohio, was arrested. He faces several charges including disorderly conduct. Police say a taxiing Northwest Airlines flight turned around at Miami International Airport late Wednesday. Authorities say witnesses told them Asad was loud, disruptive and claimed to be Palestinian. The Transportation Security Administration says three of his companions were also taken off the plane and questioned. The plane departed after a search. A phone number for Asad rang unanswered. Police didn’t return a message.“

“The Department of Homeland Security is reining in a “maverick” division of the agency following criticism of a report it issued that details domestic “extremists” ranging from anti-tax movements to pro-environment groups,“ according to a FOX News article released this week.
“They cover: Jewish extremists, animal rights extremists, Christian identity extremists, black separatism extremists, anti-abortion extremists, anti-immigration extremists, anti-technology extremists, Cuban independence extremists and tax resistance extremists, to name a few.“
The report was pulled soon after it was released; and it is interesting to note that there is a “maverick” office near the top of the United States’ law enforcement hierarchy. One wonders why Jewish extremists would be at the top of the list mentioned by the article, According to the article, the report also discusses more traditionally recognized forms of extremism like Neo-Nazism, but that fact is only mentioned in passing by FOX News. It’s always good to be aware of the ways in which newly empowered governments react toward those with strong views. No one should take our free speech rights for granted, even in the greatest country on earth.

Approximately one and a half million of the victims were children. A major component of this year’s day of Holocaust remembrance in Israel (Yom HaShoah) involved recognizing of the children who perished.
It is the responsibility of all decent Jews to remember the pain of the Holocaust and all of the other despicable acts of persecution our people have suffered at the hands of the Nations, and importantly, not to ever delude ourselves into believing it could not happen again. That recognition means that we must constantly strive to strengthen ourselves and our communities in all aspects; we must never be passive in the face of evil.
